ULTRASOUND GUIDED PROCEDURE

Specialty Image

Ultrasound-guided procedures involve the use of real-time ultrasound imaging to accurately guide needles, catheters, or medical instruments for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. These procedures enhance precision, reduce complications, and improve patient safety.

At Shalaka Imaging Center, we utilize state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to perform minimally invasive procedures with high accuracy and efficiency.

Types of Ultrasound-Guided Procedures

1. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC)

  • A minimally invasive procedure used to extract fluid or tissue samples from lumps, nodules, or abnormal masses in organs such as the thyroid, breast, or lymph nodes.

  • Helps in diagnosing infections, cysts, and cancerous growths.

2. Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy

  • Used to obtain tissue samples from organs such as the liver, kidneys, prostate, or breast for histopathological examination.

  • Ensures precise needle placement for accurate diagnosis of tumors or abnormal growths.

3. Tapping (Fluid Drainage Procedure)

  • Used to drain excess fluid accumulation in body cavities, such as:

    • Ascitic Tap: Draining fluid from the abdomen (ascites).

    • Pleural Tap: Removing fluid from around the lungs (pleural effusion).

    • Cyst Aspiration: Draining fluid-filled cysts in the breast, liver, or kidneys.

4. Ultrasound-Guided Marking

  • Pre-surgical marking of lesions or abnormal growths in the breast, thyroid, or soft tissues to assist surgeons in precise removal.

5. Drainage Procedures

  • Used to place catheters for the drainage of abscesses, collections, or infected fluids from the body.

  • Commonly performed for liver abscess drainage, renal abscesses, and deep tissue infections.

Advantages of Ultrasound-Guided Procedures

  • Higher Accuracy – Real-time imaging ensures precise needle placement.

  • Minimally Invasive – Reduces the need for open surgical procedures.

  • Faster Recovery – Less pain and quicker healing compared to traditional methods.

  • Lower Risk of Complications – Reduces damage to surrounding tissues and vital structures.

  • Safe and Radiation-Free – Uses sound waves instead of radiation, making it safe for repeated procedures.
